What kind of CANADIAN music show would we be if we didn’t recognize two important deaths in the Canadian music family?
We’re a little (a lot) late in posting about the death of Stompin’ Tom, who passed away on March 6th at 77 years. He was a hell of a folk and country singer, arguably the best known in Canada, and his career spanned generations.
I’ll make sure to dig up a good Stompin’ Tom song in honour of his great contribution to Canadian music.
A few days ago, east coast musician Jay Smith passed away. Up until recent, Jay was a member of Matt Mays and El Torpedo, and his own group Rock Ranger.
I felt a bit of sadness when i found out, as I remember a line in the Matt Mays’ song ‘City of Lakes’:
I lost a friend here in this past yearI miss his guitar playing in my earBe a friend, take away all my fearsNice and easy
I’ll be playing that come Monday morning, 10:30 am.
